Viessmann photovoltaic packages – Find the right system

A Viessmann photovoltaic system not only includes the photovoltaic modules (or PV modules for short), but also an inverter that converts the generated direct current into alternating current, and the installation system. The components are perfectly matched. For additional efficiency, you can expand the system to incorporate power storage systems or a Viessmann heat pump. This also enables a higher level of self-consumption. The decision to install a power storage unit and/or a heat pump has a significant influence on the size of the system. These factors must be taken into account in advance in order to find the right Viessmann photovoltaic package to suit you and your individual requirements. You will find support with this from our Viessmann trade partners. They offer comprehensive services from planning and design to delivery and service.

What factors determine the size of the photovoltaic system?

The size of a photovoltaic system is primarily based on the electricity demand of a house. If the electricity demand and the size of the system are matched, an optimum supply of self-generated power from the photovoltaic system is possible. Independence from rising electricity costs and self-sufficiency from central energy production are the result.

The following four questions can be used to determine the appropriate size of the photovoltaic system:

Power consumption is largely determined by the number of people living in the household. By selecting the number of people, you can determine the average household electricity demand and thus the appropriate package using the adjacent table. If you know your average electricity consumption, you can also use this as a guide to find the right size of PV package.

We have highlighted the answer "There are 4 people living in my household" in the table as an example.

Having a heat pump increases the amount of photovoltaic power that can be used on site. A larger system should be selected due to the additional electricity demand. If a fuel cell additionally provides self-generated electricity, the PV system can be selected in the smallest size.

If you answer "Yes" to the question about an additional heat pump, choose a larger photovoltaic package according to the table. If we assume a 4-person household with an average electricity consumption of 4500 kWh, it would have to be the L version of the Viessmann PV package.

The matrix shows an example of the suitable package for the available roof area by height and width of the roof.
The matrix shows an example of the suitable package for the available roof area: vertical axis height and horizontal axis width of the roof in meters.

First calculate the available roof area that is free of shading (width x height). Transfer this data into the matrix above. Based on this, you can read off the maximum possible package size for your roof area.

We have highlighted an example here too: "The available roof area is 7.5 m (width) x 7.0 m (height)." Consequently, this means that an M package is the maximum suitable version for this roof.

Check the required roof area to ascertain whether the photovoltaic system really would fit on the roof. If not, a smaller system can also be chosen. This would somewhat reduce how much self-generated power could be supplied. However, savings could still be made with every kilowatt hour from the photovoltaic system that is used on site.

If you use a power storage unit, you increase your level of self-consumption. The electricity is stored temporarily, which increases the overall PV output. The table below shows PV packages in relation to photovoltaic output and battery capacity.
